Pauline and Barry warmly invite you into their restaurant in the same way that they would invite friends into their own home. Pauline has been involved with the 1908 for more than 15 years, so when the opportunity came in late 2008 to take over the restaurant and lift it to new heights. She gathered a select team of people who shared her dream and set about evolving the 1908 into what it is now. Always striving to improve to meet our customers’ needs and desires.Her motto (Arrive as a costumer leave as a friend )

Chef Jolene and second Chef Andy designs and maintains a menu inspired by New Zealand’s ample range of culinary options. Each dish is prepared to exacting standards with an eye to consistency, taste, and presentation. Between them, they have over 30 years of culinary experience which they use to guide the 1908 kitchen staff to new heights. Constantly looking for new ways to combine New Zealand’s seasonal fresh, clean, green produce in new and exciting ways

Liz and Alice, under Pauline’s guidance, will meet and greet you and attend to your every need. Whether it’s guiding you through the extensive menu or helping with you selection from the wine list or beers from the bar. In the warmer months we are only too willing to go the extra distance and serve you in the shade of the umbrellas in our garden court yard. Or in winter bring you that final nightcap or coffee in our lounge area.
So if it’s for that group function family gathering or intimate night out, we will always try our very best to ensure you receive fast, efficient and friendly service.
